Vegan adventure in JAPAN: FAMILY FRIENDLY EDITION
Embark on a culinary and cultural adventure like no other with our Vegan Tour of Japan (family-friendly edition), where plant-based dining meets rich traditions and culture in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo and the serene, historic city of Kyoto. This tour is open to families with children aged 4 to 17 years old. We’ll take you to our favorite neighborhoods and landmarks while trying delicious vegan dishes that blend Japanese flavors with sustainable dining practices and vegan versions of all the delicious food. We’ll also incorporate activities that are kid-friendly from interactive cultural activities such as TeamLabs and the Ninja Museum. In Tokyo, we’ll explore vibrant neighborhoods, savoring everything from rich and creamy ramen to sweet treats. Then, journey to Kyoto, where ancient temples and tranquil gardens are paired with exquisite meals are inspired by centuries-old Buddhist cuisine and an abundance of matcha and coffee shops. This tour will leave you with a deeper appreciation for Japan’s ancient and modern culture while enjoying time with your family and meeting other families.

What's on the Itinerary?
DAY 1 | THE ADVENTURE BEGINS, WELCOME TO TOKYO
You will be picked up at Tokyo International Airport and hotel check-in will be available starting at 3 PM and onwards. You will be given a warm welcome and some delicious vegan snacks to help you get settled in, by our team! If your flight gets in earlier, we can show you around the neighborhood. If it gets in later, we’ll let you rest and see you in the morning.

DAY 2 | WALKING TOUR OF TOKYO + OUR FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOODS
After breakfast and a welcome orientation, we'll dive into the vibrant city of Tokyo with a guided walking tour. Together, we'll explore the city's fusion of modern and traditional, from the historic Asakusa district to the bustling streets of Shibuya. Along the way, you'll learn about Japan's rich cultural history and its unique blend of old and new. For dinner, we'll enjoy an authentic Japanese dining experience where you can savor vegan specialties, like creamy vegan ramen.
Why your kids will love it: we’ll have them trying some of Japan’s colorful snacks AND we’ll be visiting anime town, full of fun characters and shops.

DAY 3 | HISTORIC TOKYO TOUR, NINJA MUSEUM AND A VEGAN COOKING CLASS
After breakfast, we’ll explore ancient Japan from its ninja museum (a kid favorite) to the ancient Sensoji temple in the historic district of Asakusa. In the evening let’s roll up our sleeves for a hands-on vegan cooking class with a local chef, where you’ll learn how to craft vegan sushi. This is a great way for kids to get hands on and learn to make something together. At the end, we’ll enjoy the fruits of our labor, savoring a meal packed with flavor and fresh ingredients.
Why your kids will love it: getting to learn about the history of ninjas in Japan, dressing up and doing a hands on sushi experience!

DAY 4 | FREE DAY, CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE
Today is your day to explore Tokyo at your own pace! After a relaxed breakfast, the day is yours to discover the city’s hidden gems or dive deeper into your favorite spots. Some families might like visiting Disney Sea right outside Tokyo while others might want to visit the TeamLabs for the famous digital art installations. Feel free to ask for recommendations, and our local guides will be happy to share their insider tips or help you plan something in mini-groups, if you want to take a day trip outside of Tokyo. We recommend Japanese scalp massage spas for the moms!
Why your kids will love it: Kids love TeamLabs and all the interactive art that they can play around with. There’s also a vegan ramen shop connected to TeamLabs!

DAY 5 | FROM TOKYO’S ENERGY TO KYOTO’S SERENITY
Today, we’ll leave the vibrant energy of Tokyo behind as we journey to the peaceful city of Kyoto. After checking in and having lunch, we’ll enjoy a sunset visit to the iconic Kiyomizudera Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site perched on a hillside with sweeping views of the city. You’ll have time to wander the temple grounds, soak in the serene atmosphere, and admire the impressive architecture of the main hall, which seems to float above the landscape. We’ll walk through the winding alleys and make our way over to dinner. In the evening, we’ll come together for a calming dinner, reflecting on the peaceful charm of Kyoto.
Why your kids will love it: taking the Bullet train for the first time is super exciting! And visiting the temple at sunset is really unique with wonderful gift shops all around.

DAY 6 | KYOTO OFF THE BEATEN PATH
After breakfast, we’ll go on a walking tour of Kyoto and experience the city the way it reveals itself best, on foot. As we wander through ancient temple grounds, quiet residential lanes, traditional neighborhoods, and historic districts, Kyoto unfolds as a living, breathing cultural landscape. We’ll take you to explore Zen temples, Shinto shrines, seasonal gardens, and centuries-old streets while learning how spirituality, aesthetics, and daily life are deeply intertwined in Japanese culture. After lunch, we’ll dive deeper into Kyoto’s cultural heritage by walking through the Gion/geisha district in the evening. Learn about the modern-day evolution of the Geisha culture and the respectful traditions that shape their community.
Why your kids will love it: they’ll get to soak in the beauty of the zen gardens and interesting temples at each stop. We’ll also stop at a really unique candy store with an interesting history.

DAY 7: TEA CEREMONY AND KIMONO DRESS UP
Start the day off with a relaxing tea ceremony (kid-friendly) where we’ll be learning about the meaning, rituals and traditions behind Japanese tea mastery. The ceremony will be led by a local tea master and will be a mix of historical context, technique as well as meditation. You have the option here to also take part in a kimono rental to dress up like a local. The kids love this part and it’s a great way to get some fun family photos in! The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Whether you’re drawn to the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine with its thousands of vibrant red torii gates, visiting the quirkiness of Kyoto station, catching a geisha performance…there’s so much to discover. You can also choose to explore other hidden gems around Kyoto, from tranquil gardens to lively local markets for shopping.
Why parents will love it: Today is a great day to get some family photo shoots dressed up in kimonos around Kyoto!

DAY 8: DAY TRIP TO OSAKA
Today is an action-packed day where we’ll be exploring all the wonderful and quirky Osaka, where the energy is contagious and the food scene is a true highlight. We’ll visit Osaka Castle, a stunning historical landmark surrounded by beautiful parks, offering fantastic views of the city. Afterward, we’ll explore the bustling streets of Dotonbori, where you can take in the neon lights, quirky shops, and lively atmosphere. Of course, no visit to Osaka is complete without indulging in the city’s famous food, whether it’s takoyaki, okonomiyaki, or other local treats, you’ll be in for a delicious culinary adventure (but veganized).
Why your kids will love it: Osaka is quirky, full of lights and wonderful new foods to try! Visiting a real castle will be a highlight for them!

DAY 9: BACK TO TOKYO AND SUMO WRESTLING SHOW
Today we’ll take the bullet train back to Tokyo and you’ll have some time to get in last minute shopping! We’ll end the trip with a Sumo Wrestling show which is the best way to learn about Japan’s centuries old tradition from the Edo period. We’ll go for dinner afterwards and celebrate everything we’ve experienced together!
Why your kids will love it: sumo shows are super fun and energetic. Your kids can even get on stage and interact with the wrestlers.

DAY 10: GOODBYE JAPAN AND SEE YOU SOON!
We’ll be doing airport drop offs throughout the morning, afternoon and evening with the last drop off offered at 8 PM.

Essential Trip Information
FLIGHTS: We can do airport pickup in both Haneda and Narita airport, although haneda airport is much easier for you as a traveler
Roundtrip ticket is to and from Tokyo
We can host up to 12 people on this trip (including children). That means spots are limited because just 3 or 4 families can join.
We notice that kids often tend to get tired around 2 or 3 PM after a day out. We’ve built in some breaks in the afternoon so that you can go home and rest for about 90 minutes or so and then go out again in the evening.
Children must be accompanied by their parent at all times. no babysitting services are allowed on this trip.
