Embark on a colorful journey through Japan as we take you on a beautiful exploration of Tokyo and Kyoto, where world-class sightseeing meets conscious vegan food with Ahimsa Travel Club. In Tokyo, marvel at futuristic architecture, glittering cityscapes, and traditional shrines nestled among vibrant neighborhoods like Shibuya, Asakusa, and Harajuku. We’ll take you through lively markets, historic streets, and hidden gems, all while savoring beloved dishes. Then we’ll travel to Kyoto via the infamous bullet train, a city of timeless beauty where bamboo groves, ancient temples, and zen gardens offer a deep sense of peace and wonder. There, you’ll experience shojin ryori (Buddhist temple cuisine), delicate seasonal meals, and the charm of quaint tea houses and cafes. This tour is a celebration of Japan’s contrasts: old and new, bustling and serene, sacred and everyday all through the lens of ahimsa travel.

How will I be supported on this tour?

Ahimsa Travel Club will have two of our own trip leaders with you for the duration of the tour 24/7 from the time that you arrive to the time that you leave. Our guides are both local and Hindi-speaking as well as familiar with vegetarian food and other exciting cuisines as well as deeply ingrained in culture and history. Our trip leaders can help you travel at your pace: whether that’s taking it a little slower or whether that means packing in more activities, based on your preferences each day. We will host a pre-trip orientation meeting, send you a welcome packet of information as well as start a Whatsapp group prior to the trip to answer any questions and help you get ready for your adventure. We will have private transportation available to us throughout the trip to make this a comfortable and relaxing, but adventurous experience. Wheelchair access can be arranged for those that require it.


What's on the Itinerary? 

DAY 1 | THE ADVENTURE BEGINS, WELCOME TO TOKYO

The tour begins on March 28th 2026 with hotel check in starting at 3 PM and onwards. You will be picked up at Tokyo International Airport (either Narita or Haneda is OK). You will be given a warm welcome and some delicious local snacks to help you get settled in by our team! If your flight gets in earlier, we can show you around the neighborhood and have dinner together. If it gets in later, we’ll let you rest and see you in the morning.

DAY 2 | HIGHLIGHTS OF TOKYO + OUR FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOODS

After breakfast and a welcome orientation, we'll dive into the vibrant guided city tour highlighting both old and new Tokyo. Together, we'll explore the city's fusion of modern and traditional, from the historic Asakusa district to the bustling streets of Shibuya. Along the way, you'll learn about Japan's rich cultural history and its unique blend of old and new. We will stop at iconic sites including the Imperial Garden and the Shibuya Crossing and have some breaks for lunch as well as coffee and tea. For dinner, we'll enjoy an authentic Japanese dining experience with a tasting menu of different flavors.

DAY 3 | A PEEK INTO ANCIENT JAPAN THROUGH ITS TRADITIONS

Today you have the option to have an action-packed day to explore ancient Japan or pick and choose the activities that seem most interesting to you. If you want to do both options, you can simply opt in for all of them. If you want to skip something, just let us know the night before.

Option 1:
After breakfast, you have the option to add on watching a traditional Sumo wrestling match, originally from the Shinto period. This captivating sport has become famous worldwide and a really exciting and fun way to experience a part of Japanese history. After lunch, we will visit the Tokyo National Museum to explore the Edo period.

Option 2: In the evening, let’s roll up our sleeves for a hands-on sushi making class with a local chef, where you’ll learn how to craft veggie versions of beloved Japanese dishes. Sushi making is super fun with a group and you will learn about the cultural traditions passed down from generations around sushi. If you prefer to skip the cooking class, and go back to the hotel, we will have dinner provided for you.

DAY 4 | DAY TRIP TO MOUNT FUJI

Let’s take a day trip to Japan’s most majestic mountain, Mount Fuji. After an early breakfast, we will take a road trip to Mt. Fuji where stunning mountain views are surrounded by beautiful spring flowers and crystalline lakes. We’ll explore the lake region as we take a picturesque boat ride with the mountain as our backdrop. Today is your day to slow down with the fresh air, learning more about what the mountain means to the locals, and trying some delicious lunch and local teas. We’ll head back to the city in the early evening and come back for dinner. If you would prefer not to travel to Fuji today, please let us know so we can arrange an alternative activity for you on this day.

DAY 5 | FROM TOKYO’S ENERGY TO KYOTO’S SERENITY

Today, we’ll leave the vibrant energy of Tokyo behind as we journey to the peaceful city of Kyoto. We’re going to ride the exciting bullet train, the fastest train in the world to Kyoto. We’ll arrive in the afternoon and after checking in and having lunch, we’ll begin our exploration with a visit to the iconic Kiyomizudera, a UNESCO World Heritage site perched on a hillside with sweeping views of the city. You’ll have time to wander the temple grounds, soak in the serene atmosphere, and admire the impressive architecture of the main hall, which seems to float above the landscape. Afterward, we’ll take a gentle stroll through the charming streets of the historic Gion district, lined with traditional shops, tea houses and remnants of the geisha period. We might even spot some geishas going about their routines. In the evening, we’ll take you to our favorite Indian restaurant in Kyoto.

DAY 6 | BUDDHIST TEMPLE FOOD AND KIMONO CEREMONY

Today is a day filled with rich cultural experiences and the flavors of Kyoto’s spiritual traditions. In the morning, we’ll dive deeper into Kyoto’s cultural heritage with an unforgettable kimono experience and tea ceremony. You have the option to be dressed in a beautiful kimono or yukata for men, and participate in an authentic Japanese tea ceremony. The quiet, ritualistic process of preparing and drinking tea will offer a unique insight into Japan’s refined traditions. We will have time to snap some photos and fully embrace the elegance of the moment. In the evening we’ll have dinner.

DAY 7: DAY TRIP TO ARASHIYAMA, THE BAMBOO FOREST

Have you ever heard of Japanese bamboo forests? Today we’re heading to the stunning Arashiyama district, where you’ll stroll through the enchanting Bamboo Forest. The towering bamboo stalks create an almost otherworldly atmosphere as sunlight filters through the dense greenery, offering the perfect setting for a peaceful walk. After the forest, we’ll walk over the iconic beautiful bridge with the trees coming to bloom in the background. For lunch, we’ll have lunch at a Buddhist temple, where you'll try authentic Japanese temple food, called Shojin Ryori, known for its delicate flavors and mindful preparation. Eaten by Buddhist monks and locals alike, this is a perfect day to experience the serenity that Kyoto has to offer. In the evening you have the option to do an onsen (Japanese hot spring baths), or take the evening for rest as today will be a long day. Our team will always be with you, even during the free time.

DAY 8: BOTANICAL GARDENS OF KYOTO AND A GEISHA PERFORMANCE

After breakfast, we’ll visit the lush Kyoto botanical gardens which will have just bloomed with cherry blossoms. From the iconic bonsais to zen rock gardens to the lotus pond, there is a lot to explore. In addition, we can get an iconic stamp souvenir here that is a specialty of Japan. After lunch, we will see the Golden Pavillion shimmering on the lake and headback into the downtown. This evening we will be treated to a very special dance performance by a practicing local geisha. The geisha will be able to answer questions about their culture and traditions after the show, especially for our group. Tonight will be our final night in Kyoto and we will end it with a lovely dinner.

DAY 9: BACK TO TOKYO AND OUR LAST DAY TOGETHER

Today, we head back to Tokyo, where the energy of the city is sure to make your final day extra memorable. After checking in, you’ll have the afternoon free to do whatever you please—whether it’s doing some last-minute shopping, seeing a bucket-list neighborhood, gallery or revisiting a favorite spot, getting in a massage or simply soaking in the atmosphere of this incredible city one last time. In the evening, we’ll gather together for a special farewell drink or chai to reflect on the amazing experiences we’ve shared. Then, we’ll sit down to a heartfelt goodbye dinner, celebrating new friendships, unforgettable moments, and the incredible journey we’ve had together.

DAY 10: GOODBYE JAPAN AND SEE YOU SOON!

The tour ends on April 6th 2026. We’ll be doing airport drop offs throughout the morning, afternoon and evening with the last drop off offered at 8 PM. Please book your return flight for anytime on April 6th.
