Explore ancient ruins, wander through lush cenote-dotted forests and connect with the living descendants of one of the world's greatest civilizations, all while savoring fresh, creative vegan cuisine inspired by indigenous ingredients like chaya, chayote, achiote and cacao. DAY 2 | ART, ANCIENT HISTORY, AND THE LAKE OF SEVEN COLORS
After a nourishing breakfast together, we'll kick off the morning with an engaging introduction to the ancient Mayan civilization and setting the stage for everything you'll discover throughout the week. From there, we'll take a leisurely stroll through Bacalar's charming town center, where over 100 vibrant murals bring the streets to life with stories of local identity, ecological awareness and Mayan heritage. After a fresh, veggie-packed lunch at a local favorite, we'll make our way to the iconic Fuerte de San Felipe, a fort built in the 1700s to defend the region from pirate raids, whose museum tells the layered and often raw story of Spanish colonization and the enduring resistance of the Mayan people. In the late afternoon, we'll head down to the shores of the legendary Laguna de Bacalar and watch the sun melt into the water, turning the lake into breathtaking shades of emerald and gold. Take a dip from the dock, hop on a small boat to soak it in from the water, or simply sit back and let the beauty wash over you.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 3 | EXPLORING THE ANCIENT CENOTES
In the morning we’ll explore two of Bacalar’s most extraordinary cenotes or portals to the underworld as the Maya believed! Cenotes are natural freshwater sinkholes sacred to the ancient Maya, who relied on them as their primary source of water and life. Our first stop is Cenote Azul, one of the most breathtaking cenotes in the entire Yucatán Peninsula, plunging an astonishing 90 meters deep with crystal-clear waters in vivid shades of blue and turquoise. Swim, snorkel, kayak or simply float and take in the jungle surroundings….this is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed. After a fresh, plant-based lunch on site, we'll make our way to the ecologically fascinating Cenote Cocalitos, home to stromatolites which are living, breathing organisms that are among the oldest life forms on Earth, dating back billions of years. These ancient microbes played a crucial role in creating the oxygen-rich atmosphere that made life on our planet possible, and the Maya revered the cenotes that housed them as deeply sacred spaces. Wade into the calm, shallow waters, relax in a hammock along the shoreline and reflect on the extraordinary living history beneath your feet. Today is a gentle reminder of why protecting these precious ecosystems matters. The evening is free for you to explore on your own, get some downtime, or go see some live music in town in smaller groups.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 4 | THE LOST CITIES OF THE MAYA: AN ARCHELOGICAL EXPLORATION
Today we venture deep into the jungle for a full day of archaeological discovery stepping into two of the Yucatán's most awe-inspiring and rarely visited Mayan sites. We'll make our way first to the legendary Kohunlich, a sprawling ancient city set dramatically within the tropical forest. Kohunlich's crown jewel is the magnificent Temple of the Masks, where enormous stucco faces of the sun god gaze out from the jungle with an intensity that has to be seen to be believed. With very few other visitors around, you'll have the space and silence to truly absorb the power and mystery of this extraordinary place. After a packed plant-based lunch before making our way to the remarkable Xpujil, a testament to the extraordinary astronomical precision of the ancient Maya. Two sites, two completely different architectural stories, one unforgettable day deep in the heart of the Mayan world. We'll head back to Bacalar as the sun begins to set, having stepped back in time to the ancient world for a little bit.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 5 | THE INCREDIBLE BIODIVERSITY AND MARINE LIFE OF XCALAK NATIONAL MARINE PARK
Today visit one of the most unspoiled natural adventures of the whole trip. After an early breakfast we'll make the scenic two hour drive south to Xcalak National Marine Park, a vast, protected paradise covering nearly 18,000 hectares of some of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in all of Mexico. Upon arrival we'll set out on a guided kayak tour through the mangroves, gliding through a lush river corridor alive with migratory birds, brown pelicans, juvenile fish and the occasional crocodile keeping a lazy eye on you from the bank. You have the option to add on snorkeling where eagle rays, manatees and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish call home. For those who prefer to stay above water, a visit to Bird Island with a local guide offers an equally magical window into the rich wildlife that thrives in Xcalak's protected ecosystems. As the afternoon light turns golden we'll make our way back to Bacalar, sun-kissed, salt-washed and full of wonder. A gentle dinner together tonight to close out a truly unforgettable day.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 6 | FREE DAY
Today is yours to exhale. Sleep in, sip your morning coffee slowly and let Bacalar work its magic at whatever pace feels right for you. Today is the perfect opportunity to go swimming, take a yoga class on your own, get a massage or tuck into a cute cafe with a book. For those craving pure stillness, find a hammock, find a dock and let the Lake of Seven Colors do what it does best. For those looking for a bit more activity, you can rent a paddleboard and get more time in the water.
Meals Included: Breakfast
DAY 7 | ECO PARK AND GOODBYE DINNER
We saved one of the most meaningful experiences of the trip for our last full day together. This morning we head to the remarkable Bacalar Ecopark, a stunning 7,000 square meter ecological sanctuary right in the heart of town, where conservation and natural beauty come together in the most breathtaking way. We’ll walk along the wooden boardwalk that extends out over the lagoon in a perfect square, with elevated walkways carefully designed to preserve the stromatolites, and we may spot other resident wildlife that hide quietly in the mangroves below. As the sun begins its descent over the lagoon, we'll gather together for our farewell dinner. Tonight is a celebration of the places we've explored, the history we've uncovered, the food we've savored and the community we've built together around a love of conscious, intentional travel. By the time the stars come out over Bacalar, you'll know this place has changed you and that a little piece of you will always belong to the Lake of Seven Colors.
